Frequently asked questions.
What is Structural Integration?
Structural Integration is a holistic approach to bodywork aimed at improving posture, alignment, and overall well-being. It involves hands-on manipulation of the body's soft tissues to release tension, realign the body, and enhance mobility.
What is Fascia?
Fascia is the body's connective tissue beneath the skin that attaches, stabilizes, encloses, and separates muscles and other internal organs. It is important to the well being of healthy muscles.
How is Structural Integration different from other forms of bodywork?
Unlike massage therapy, which often focuses on addressing specific areas of tension or discomfort, Structural Integration takes a whole-body approach, aiming to reorganize the entire body's structure for improved function and balance. The pressure, hand tools, and body positions also are much different. It also differs from chiropractic care in that it does not involve spinal adjustments but instead works with the body's soft tissues to facilitate alignment.
What should I wear during the session?
We recommend wearing loose, comfortable clothing that allows for ease of movement. Opt for clothing such as gym attire, or stretchy fabrics to ensure maximum comfort during the session. Avoid wearing restrictive clothing that may limit movement or cause discomfort.
Women — Shorts and sports bra
Men — Athletic shorts
How soon will I feel changes?
You will feel a definite change after each session; some profoundly and some with subtle perceptions. What is most unexpected, is how, each layer of change will affect the next and how your body responds to that change (less tension, stress, pain, stiffness, discomfort).
Is Structural Integration painful?
While some discomfort may be experienced during the session, it is typically not painful. The therapist works within your comfort level, and any discomfort is usually temporary and indicative of areas that need attention.
How long do the effects of Structural Integration last?
The effects of Structural Integration can be long-lasting, especially with proper self-care and maintenance plan created by practitioner. However, regular tune-up sessions may be recommended to address new patterns or habits that arise over time.
Are there any side effects or contraindications to Structural Integration?
While most people experience positive effects from Structural Integration, some may temporarily experience soreness or fatigue as the body adjusts to the changes. It's important to communicate openly with your therapist about any discomfort or concerns. Structural Integration may not be suitable for individuals with certain medical conditions or acute injuries, so it's essential to consult with a qualified therapist beforehand.
